Philip Ponella

BIO
Philip Ponella is the Wennerstrom-Phillips Music Library Director and Chief Digital Officer at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He leads online and digital activity for the Jacobs School, including overseeing the day to day operations of Music Information Technology Services, the Jacobs School's technology support unit, IU MusicLive, the School's online streaming portal, and development of online courses and assets. He is the liaison to the University's Information Technology Services unit, serving on the 1IUIT Leadership Council. From 2020-2022 he served as the Jacobs School's Assistant to the Dean for Administration.
As Wennerstrom-Phillips Music Library Director he leads all aspects of the operations of the William and Gayle Cook Music Library. He was a co-leader of the Variations Digital Music Library project team, now replaced my the Avalon Media System. He teaches the graduate Music Bibliography course at the Jacobs School of Music and the Seminar in Music Librarianship for Indiana University's Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.
Previously he was Director of Academic Technology Services at the University of Rochester, and Director of Technology and Media Production at the Eastman School of Music where, in addition to leading technology, he taught the graduate Music Bibliography course and several technology related courses in the Institute for Music Leadership.

He holds Masters degrees in both Music and Library and Information Science and has presented at regional, national and international conferences. He has served on several professional committees, and has been a member of professional organizations including the Music Library Association and Educause, and was on the editorial staff of the Journal of Seventeenth Century Music. He has been the recipient of awards from the Surdna Foundation, H.W. Wilson Company and the Music Library Association.​
